The Phoenix varsity softball team has a 4-12 overall record after going 1-2 in its last three games.
On May 7, Solvay rolled past Phoenix 19-0. The Lady Firebirds cruised past Cazenovia 15-5 on May 8 while Phoenix lost to Marcellus 9-2 on May 12.
Solvay jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Phoenix in the first inning. After the two following innings, Solvay expanded its lead, scoring five unanswered runs during the fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-0 lead.
Solvay didn’t stop there. They scored 11 more runs during the sixth and seventh innings to cap off a 19-0 win.
Phoenix was led by Skyler Mace and Jada Jackowski with a hit each. Cheyenne Wilson pitched the entire game for the Lady Firebirds, throwing five strikeouts while allowing 19 runs off 19 hits in seven innings of work.
Against the Lakers, Phoenix took the early lead 1-0 in the first, but then Caz evened the score in the third.
Then the Lady Firebirds stormed ahead. They scored four unanswered runs during the fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead. Phoenix maintained its four-run lead at 7-3 after both teams scored a run in the fifth inning.
Then the Lady Firebirds soon put the game out of reach, outscoring red Caz 8-2 in the sixth inning en route to a 15-5 win.
Leading the way for Phoenix were Isabella Garofalo and Jada Jackowski with two hits and two RBIs each. Following them were Skyler Mace and Alicia Midlar with two hits each. Megan Brown had a hit and two RBIs. Kaitlyn Stenoski is credited with an RBI.
Megan Brown pitched a complete game for Phoenix, throwing eight strikeouts while allowing five runs off six hits.
Marcellus wasted little time building a lead in its game against Phoenix. By the end of the second inning, Marcellus had a 4-0 lead.
But the Lady Firebirds quickly cut into the lead. They scored during the third inning to bring the lead down to three runs at 4-1.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Marcellus added to its lead. They scored five unanswered runs during the fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead to 9-1.
Phoenix wasn’t about back off, though. They scored during the seventh inning to bring the deficit down to seven runs. But the lead they faced proved to be insurmountable as Marcellus came away with a 9-2 win.
Phoenix was led by Isabella Garofalo and Jada Jackowski with two hits each, followed by Megan Brown with a hit and an RBI and Alicia Midlar with a hit.
