Phoenix baseball wins 2 of last 3 games

The Phoenix varsity baseball team won two of its last three games to roll to an overall 8-3 record.

On May 5, the Firebirds beat Altmar-Parish-Williamstown 16-1. Phoenix came up short against Solvay 4-2 on May 7, while they rebounded May 8 to knock off Cazenovia 7-3 on May 8.

Against APW, the Rebels jumped out to a 1-0 lead during the second inning. But Phoenix took over from there, scoring eight unanswered runs in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead.

Phoenix added eight more runs during the sixth and seventh innings en route to the 16-1 win.

Leading the way for APW was James Corey with a hit and an RBI.  Following Corey were Ty Christian and Zach Dennison with a hit each.

Justin Bristol got the start on the mound for Rebels, throwing one strikeout while allowing five runs off six hits in three innings of work. In relief of Bristol, Justin Scott allowed seven runs off five hits in two innings pitched. Austin Appleby threw two strikeouts while allowing four runs off  three hits in an inning of work.

Phoenix was led by Bryce Plante with four hits and two RBIs, followed by Codie Corso with two hits and three RBIs, Zach Schlacter with two hits and an RBI, Emilio Tassone and Bradley Dietz each with two hits, Ryan Pinzer and Dan Frawley with a hit each and Jordan Jock and Zachary Wells combining for three RBIs.

On the mound, the Firebirds were led by Bradley Dietz, who threw six strikeouts while allowing a run off three hits in six innings pitched. In relief of Dietz, Zach Schlacter threw a strikeout in an inning of work.

In the Solvay game, Phoenix took a 1-0 lead during the second inning and Solvay tied the game in the fourth.

The Firebirds quickly answered back. They scored during the fifth inning to retake the lead at 2-1. Then Solvay scored three unanswered runs during the sixth and seventh innings to come away with a 4-2 win.

Leading the way for the Firebirds were Codie Corso, Jordan Jock, Bryce Plante and Zachary Wells with a hit each, followed by Dan Frawley and Zach Schlacter who tallied an RBI each.

Dan Frawley was on the mound for the Firebirds, throwing five strikeouts while allowing three runs off four hits in five innings of work. In relief of Frawley, Emilio Tassone allowed a run off a hit in two innings pitched.

Against Cazenovia, the Lakers jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Firebirds during the first inning. Following two scoreless innings, Cazenovia added to its lead, scoring two runs during the fourth inning.

But then Phoenix held Cazenovia scoreless the rest of the way.  After a scoreless fifth inning, the Firebirds stormed ahead, scoring seven unanswered runs during the sixth and seventh innings to cap off a 7-3 win.

Phoenix was led by Bradley Dietz with two hits, followed by Zachary Wells with a hit and two RBIs. Emilio Tassone and Dan Frawley each had a hit and an RBI. Jordan Jock and Bryce Plante chipped in a hit each, while Codie Corso and Zach Schlacter were each credited with an RBI.

Emilio Tassone pitched a complete game for the Firebirds, throwing nine strikeouts while allowing three runs off five hits.
