Fulton softball team splits doubleheader with ESM

The Fulton varsity softball team went 1-2 in its last 3 games and now has a 5-3 overall record.

The Lady Raiders lost to county rival Oswego April 26 by a score of 20-5. Fulton split games with East Syracuse Minoa in a doubleheader April 28 — beat ESM 8-2 in Game 1 and losing 6-5 in Game 2.

Against Oswego, Fulton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. But Oswego soon came back, scoring nine unanswered runs during the second inning to take a 9-2 lead.

Fulton outscored Oswego 2-1 during the third inning to cut the lead to 10-4 but then Oswego put the game out of reach during the next two innings, scoring nine more runs to push its lead to 19-4.

The Lady Raiders scored during the sixth inning to come within 14 runs at 19-5, but that was as close as they could get as Oswego added a run during the seventh inning en route to the 20-5 win.

Leading the way for Oswego was Marguerite Dillon with three hits and six RBIs including two home runs. Following Dillon were Nora Culeton and Emily Lloyd with three hits and two RBIs each. Monica Randall had three hits and an RBI. Natasha Mezza added a hit and an RBI while Carrie Kelly, Molly Malone and Caitlyn McCrae combined for six hits.

Hannah Gorman started the game on the mound for Oswego, throwing three strikeouts while allowing five runs off eight hits in six innings pitched. Elexis Rinoldo pitched the final inning.

Fulton was led by Hannah Jones with two hits and three RBIs, followed by Anna Guernsey and Cheyenne Laun with two hits and an RBI each. Maureen McCann had two hits and Courtney Parker chipped in a hit.

On the mound, Brittany Alton had one strikeout while allowing nine runs off eight hits in 1 1/3 innings of work. In relief of Alton, Cheyenne Laun threw six strikeouts while allowing 11 runs off 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings pitched.

In Game 1 of its doubleheader with ESM, the Lady Raiders took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. The ESM responded outscoring Fulton 2-1 during the third to cut the lead to 3-2.

Then the Lady Raiders took over from there. Following a scoreless fourth inning, Fulton scored five unanswered runs during the fifth and sixth innings to cap off an 8-2 win.

Leading the way for the Lady Raiders was Keisha Pierce with two hits and three RBIs including a home run. Following Pierce was Cheyenne Laun with two hits. Caitlyn Chrisman, Maureen McCann and Anna Guernsey had a hit and an RBI each. Casey Jones and Courtney Parker added a hit each for Fulton.

Mikayla Guernsey pitched a complete game for the Lady Raiders, throwing two strikeouts while allowing two runs off five hits.

In Game 2, ESM held off Fulton 6-5.

The Lady Raiders were led by Hannah Jones with three hits, followed by  Cheyenne Laun with two hits and two RBIs including a homerun. Courtney Parker had two hits and two RBIs, Maureen McCann added two hits,Caitlyn Chrisman and Anna Guernsey, Kassidy Kearns and Keisha Pierce combined for three hits and an RBI.

Mikayla Guernsey started the game on the mound for Fulton, hurling one strikeout while allowing one run off four hits in two innings pitched. In relief of Guernsey, Cheyenne Laun threw two strikeouts while allowing five runs off seven hits in five innings of work.
