Fulton softball continues to win

The Fulton varsity softball team went 2-1 in its last three games and now has an overall record of 4-1.

On April 24, the Lady Raiders won a fireworks-filled game against Christian Brothers Academy, 22-21. Fulton knocked off Syracuse West 4-2 on April 25. The Jamesville-DeWitt Lady Red Rams were the only loss, topping the Lady Raiders 6-0 on April 26.

A brutal hard-fought win over CBA began with a scoreless first inning, followed by a Fulton scoring six runs in the second.

CBA quickly responded by scoring six runs in the third to Fulton’s one, cutting the lead to 7-6.

After both teams scored four runs during the fourth inning, the Lady Raiders maintained their one-run lead at 11-10.

CBA then stormed ahead, scoring five  unanswered runs during the fifth inning to take a 15-11 lead.

The Lady Raiders’ determination remained as they outscored CBA 8-3 in the sixth inning for a 19-18 lead. CBA would get no closer as both teams scores three more runs for a final score of 22-21.

The Lady Raiders were led by Caitlyn Chrisman and MiKayla Guernsey wiht four hits and three RBIs each. Following Chrisman and Guernsey was Keisha Pierce with three hits and two RBIs, Kassidy Kearns, Cheyenne Laun and Maureen McCann each with two hits and two RBIs and Anna Guernsey and Katelyn Ely combined for a hit and an RBI.

MiKayla Guernsey earned the win on the mound, allowing 12 runs off 18 hits in four innings pitched. In relief of Guernsey, Cheyenne Laun threw three strikeouts while allowing nine runs off three hits in three innings of work.

In the Syracuse West game, the first inning was scoreless and then Syracuse West took a 1-0 lead in the second.

Syracuse scored another run during the third inning to extend its lead to 2-0.

But the Lady Raiders took over from there. After two scoreless innings, Fulton scored four unanswered runs during the sixth inning en route to a 4-2 win.

Leading the way for Fulton was Caitlyn Chrisman with a hit and two RBIs, followed by MiKayla Guernsey, Cheyenne Laun, Courtney Park and Keisha Pierce with a hit each. Anna Guernsey is credited with two RBIs for the Lady Raiders.

MiKayla Guernsey got it done on the mound for Fulton. In a complete game effort, Guernsey threw seven strikeouts while allowing two runs off five hits.

J-D handed the Lady Raiders their only loss by jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. J-D wasted little time expanding its lead, adding three more runs in the second inning to push its lead to 5-0.

J-D scored again during the fifth inning and Fulton couldn’t answer as the Lady Red Rams put up a 6-0 shutout.

Fulton was led by Hannah Jones, Courtney Parker and Keisha Pierce with two hits each. Maureen McCann chipped in a hit.

On the mound, Cheyenne Laun allowed five runs off three hits in three innings of work. In relief, Brittany Alton allowed a run off three hits in four innings pitched.
