The Phoenix boys’ varsity soccer team has gone through a rough patch, losing six of its last seven games.
Solvay prevailed over the Firebirds Sept. 19 by a score of 6-2. Solvay jumped out to a 2-0 lead during the first half. During the second half, they added 2 goals down the stretch en route to win.
Leading the way for the Firebirds was Zachary Schlacter, who scored 2 goals, followd by Evan Logee and Kyle Demo with an assist each. Goalkeepers Bryce Plante and Ryan Clark combined to save 12 out of Solvay’s 18 shots on goal for Phoenix.
The Firebirds rolled past Tyburn Academy Sept. 20. Phoenix got off to a solid start with a 3-0 lead during the first half.
The Firebirds expanded their lead during the second half, outscoring Tyburn Academy by a goal to cruise to the 6-2 win.
Phoenix was led by Zachary Schlacter with 2 goals, followed by Bryce Plante with a goal and an assist. Kyle Demo, Jon Borza and Patrick Murphy added a goal each. Andy Padula, Adam Pinzer, John Garofalo, Chris Nicolella and Luke Schlacter were credited with an assist each. Goalkeepers Bryce Plante and Ryan Clark combined to save 7 of Tyburn’s 9 shots on goal.
Jordan-Elbridge rallied past Phoenix Sept. 25 by a score of 6-2. After a competitive first half, the Firebirds had a 2-1 lead, but then J-E took over during the second half, erupting for 5 goals down the stretch.
Leading the way for the Firebirds were Bryce Plante and Zachary Schlacter, with a goal each. Goalkeeper Ryan Clark saved 6 out of J-E’s 12 shots on goal for Phoenix.
Cazenovia stormed past the Firebirds Oct. 1 by 7-1. Phoenix got off to a decent start with a 1-0 lead during the first half.
But then, the second half was all Cazenovia. They stormed ahead with 7 unanswered goals down the stretch to clinch the win. Phoenix was led by Kyle Demo., who scored a goal assisted by Zachary Schlacter. Goalkeepers Bryce Plante and Ryan Clark combined to save 10 out of Cazenovia’s 17 shots on goal.
Marcellus pulled away from Phoenix Oct. 3 after a competitive first half in which Marcellus had only a 2-1 lead.
But, Marcellus padded its lead during the second half, scoring 3 unanswered goals to come away with a 5-1 win.
Leaders for Phoenix were Kyle Demo, who scored a goal assisted by Zachary Schlacter and goalkeepers Ryan Clark and Bryce Plante combined to save 16 out of Marcellus’ 21 shots on goal.
Westhill proved to be too much for Phoenix Oct. 8. Westhill built a 2-0 lead during the first half and then pulled away in the second half, outscoring Phoenix by 4 goals en route to an 8-2 win.
Phoenix was led by Zachary Schlacter.m who scored a goal and had an assist. Kyle Demo also scored a goal, while goalkeepers Bryce Plante and Ryan Clark combined to save 16 of Westhill’s 24 shots on goal.
Skaneateles cruised past Phoenix Oct. 10 6-1. Following a competitive first half, Skaneateles had just a 3-1 lead, but Skaneateles scored 3 unanswered goals in the second half for the win.
