Newvines to present ‘Forgotten Woman’ program in Mexico

Hannibal historians Lowell and Carol Newvine will present the program when the Mexico Historical Society meets Sept. 12.

The society will meet at 7 p.m. at the Wilcox Building at the Presbyterian Church. After a brief business meeting, the evenings program will be a presentation by the Newvines on “Anna Ella Carroll, the Forgotten Woman of the Civil War.”

Carroll studied law and business, and was friends with many influential gentlemen prior to and during the Civil War, eventually becoming a confidant of President Abraham Lincoln.

Lowell Newvine is both the Hannibal Town and Village Historian, as well as the historian for the Hannibal Historical Society. He has compiled two books about Hannibal.

Carol Newvine is the vice president of the Hannibal Historical Society.

All interested persons are welcome to the meeting.
