The CNY Arts Center has selected Mary Jane Visser as July Volunteer of the Month.
The Arts Center, which was founded in 2011, is dedicated to providing quality arts programming for people of all ages and relies on volunteers to reach its goals.
The volunteer awards program was created to acknowledge the work of those who have made contributions.
“Volunteers are involved with all aspects of the Arts Center,” says Alice Lamb, program coordinator and volunteer recognition coordinator for the center. “They often bring in new ideas and then provide the energy to carry those ideas out.”
Visser aptly fits the description of a typical CNY Arts Center volunteer. As one of the founding members of the center, she has shared her background as a studio artist as well as a multi-talented crafter.
“Mary Jane has been with us since the first Arts Fest, has faithfully attended our weekly meetings and taken charge of almost all of our children’s art projects,” says Nancy Fox, the center’s director. “She is always on the hunt for the next most unique art project for all age levels, and then gathers supplies to create the finished project, using recycled items as often as possible.”
Her volunteering can be seen both behind the scenes and in the activities themselves. She takes care of keeping supplies inventoried, organized and accessible; she has been a familiar face at the center’s open houses and holiday events.
In addition, Visser has become an invaluable resource for feedback on numerous issues as the Arts Center grows.
CNY Arts Center is proud to honor Visser as the latest Volunteer of the Month. The center’s home is at the State Street United Methodist Church, 357 State. St., Fulton.
