What’s Happening at CNY Arts Center?

Another opening, another show with the debut of “Charlotte’s Web,” 7 p.m. this Friday, Aug.16, followed by 2 p.m. matinees on Aug. 17 and Aug. 18.

Not only is this a debut for “Charlotte’s Web” on our stage, it is the debut of more than 20 children who have never experienced the thrill and terror of being on stage before a live audience.

Story Time Art, for 4-year-olds to 7-year-olds, moves to 6 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 14, for one week only with Kendra Matott.

Our book title, Olivia will have kids splattering paint just like Olivia! Only one more session of this fun class, Aug. 27 with Good Night Moon. Michael Lynne, a new CNY Arts Center artist, offers Painting Fundamentals I from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 22, 29 and Sept. 5. This class will brighten your use of color, explore color mixing approaches, experiment with layering color and share Michael’s expertise for controlling the use of edges.

The Lighthouse in Grove Park School will be the subject of our Author Spotlight on Mary Slimmer, 7  p.m. Aug. 21. Mary Slimmer, a retired teacher/administrator in the Oswego City School District, has written her first novel for young adults.

This adventuresome story follows a group of elementary school friends through some challenging and scary events.

“The characters in the book are fictional,” says Slimmer, “but they were inspired by the many children I worked with over the years.”

Jim Farfaglia offers a one-day workshop for aspiring authors. Working through Writer’s Block will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 24. This workshop provides an overview of positive and affirming activities to help writers move through challenges in their writing.

Our summer session wraps up with Artist Meet-up at the Gallery, from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 27. Join the growing artist community at this event designed to get us all together for the love of art!

Bring your portfolio to share, meet other artists of all skill levels, mediums and interests; exchange ideas and feedback; enjoy talking with other artists. Come and bring a friend! This event is open to the public and held at Arts in the HeArt Gallery, 47 S. First St., Fulton.
