The Phoenix varsity baseball team lost back-to-back games to conclude the regular season.
Marcellus stormed past Phoenix May 15 to even the season series between the two teams. A day later, Westhill came away with a win over the Firebirds.
Phoenix finishes the regular season with a record of 8-8, which qualifies the team for the sectional playoffs.
The Firebirds took on Canastota on Tuesday in an opening-round game.
Marcellus overcame an early deficit to rally past Phoenix. After a scoreless first inning, the Firebirds took a 2-0 lead during the top of the second inning.
Marcellus took control of the game from there. During the next two innings, Marcellus scored two runs to tie the game. Marcellus put the game out of reach during the fifth and sixth innings, scoring four runs to come away with a 6-2 win.
Leading the way for Phoenix was Bryce Plante, Justin Suttliffe and Adam Thoryk, who all had a hit.
On the mound, Emilio Tassone finished with five strikeouts while allowing six runs on 11 hits in six innings of play.
Westhill proved to be a little too much for the Firebirds May 16. Westhill got off to a decent start, jumping out to a 2-1 lead during the first inning.
After three scoreless innings, Westhill added to its lead. During the fifth and sixth innings, Westhill scored two more runs to take a 4-1 lead over Phoenix.
