Charles I. VanHorn, heavy equipment operator

Charles I. VanHorn, 85, of Red Creek, died Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse.

He was an excavating heavy equipment operator for J K Tobin Construction Co. in Jamesville for over 35 years. He loved and was loved by his family and enjoyed John Deere tractors, gardening, woodworking and country music.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara in 2005, and by three brothers, James, George and Gerald VanHorn. Surviving are his children, William (Phyllis) VanHorn of Cato, Charles (Laurie) VanHorn of Red Creek, Karen (Doug) DeMaintenon of Orlando, Fla. and Rocco (Cari) Giacolone of Cato; siblings, Joseph (Sandra) VanHorn of Meridian, Earl (Anne) VanHorn of Cato, Oliver (Shari) VanHorn of Cato, Harold (Dorothy) VanHorn of Cato and Beulah Cavanagh of Weedsport; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal with services 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cato Union Cemetery in Cato.
