Hannibal softball team drops first two games of the season

The Hannibal varsity softball team lost to Mercyhurst Prep and Westhill to begin the season. Mercyhurst Prep scored 11 runs during the first three innings of its game against Hannibal while cruising to an 18-0 win April 5.

Hannibal’s struggles continued when it faced Westhill April 9. Westhill scored 12 runs during the game’s first four innings en route to an 18-3 win over Hannibal.

The Lady Warriors had their hands full when they took Mercyhurst Prep. Mercyhurst Prep jumped out to an 11-0 lead during the first three innings of the game. Mercyhurst Prep added seven more runs during the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to cap off the 18-0 win.

Leading the way for Hannibal was Malania Scott and Adrienne Shortslef, who both had two hits. Hailey Dunsmoor, Tiffany Cook and Megan Norris. Dunsmoor, Cook and Norris each had a hit each for the Lady Warriors.

Adrienne Shortslef was the only Hannibal pitcher to see time on the mound. In seven innings of work, Shortslef struck out nine Mercyhurst Prep batters while giving up 18 runs on 25 hits.
