The 32nd annual Fulton Service Clubs’ Memorial Day Salute Parade is scheduled for Saturday, May 25 at 10 a.m.
The parade theme this year is “America, United We Stand.”
“Once again, this year we are pleased to have the participation of B-104, Tom Owens, long-time on air Clear Channel radio personality,” an organizer said. “Tom, along with the parade chairman, Zach Menter will be the co-hosts and commentators for the parade.”
“I am so honored to be a part of the 32nd annual Fulton Memorial Day Salute Parade,” said Owens. “Our B-104 family has the utmost respect for and pride in the men and women who serve our country and to be a part of this amazing celebration honoring them is so exciting for me.”
For the past 31 years, the four Service Clubs in Fulton — the Kiwanis, Lions, Sunrise Rotary and Rotary — have chosen to honor veterans by featuring them in the annual parade.
Fulton’s Veteran of the Year for 2013 is Alfred Myhill, a World War II Army veteran, who was assigned to the Second Hospitalization Unit of the 53rd Field Hospital in Europe. Myhill will serve as grand marshall of this year’s parade.
The Fulton Memorial Day parade traditionally features children and bands. Many children’s groups have already signed up for the parade this year.
There is always room for more groups, businesses, and individuals to be in the parade. Those seeking to be part of the parade by call Menter at 591-4502.
So far, the Memorial Day Salute Committee has 10 bands signed up for this year’s parade: Fulton Marching Band, the Central New York Police and Fireman’s Band, City of Syracuse Highland Pipe and Drums, Camden Fife & Drum Corps, Central Square Middle School Band, The Original Yanks Drum & Bugle Corp, Brockville Lions Steel Band, Naples High School Marching Band, the Island Band, Towpath Volunteers Fife, and Drum band from Macedon.
Several business and groups are working on floats to place in the parade.
