With a successful start to programming and events in its State Street facility, CNY Arts Center is preparing to expand their community presence with the opening of an art gallery in downtown Fulton.
The new space will give artists an opportunity to exhibit their artwork in the public hoping to generate awareness, sales and demand for regional art.
“We are stepping out with the idea that if we provide this affordable opportunity for artists to participate, the economic potential for all artists will grow along with an increased appetite for the arts,” said Nancy Fox, director of the CNY Arts Center.
“The arts as an industry will have a significant impact when we harness that potential and bring it right to the community,” she added. “Through the arts center programming, we are discovering artists of all mediums. Providing this public space to exhibit their art is a giant step forward for many of them.”
Artists can apply for space in the gallery which will be located on First Street across from the city gazebo.
“With farmer’s market and events happening in the gazebo and along the river all summer long,” said Bonnie McClellan, project lead for the art gallery expansion, “we felt confident this prime location would be a great place to generate the necessary foot traffic as we introduce these artists to the community. And it will be a nice addition for downtown shoppers, employees and restaurants.”
There will be space for artists with drawings, ink work, mixed media, paintings, photography, charcoal, glass, pastels, wood, fabric, and sculpture or 3D design.
No crafts will be considered. Adjustments are being made to accommodate as many artists as possible.
Artists will be spotlighted on a rotating basis in one of two distinct display areas while monthly social events will allow the public to meet and mingle with the artists. The gallery will also be available to artists for private exhibits.
In addition to a modest fee and sales commission, artists will be asked to work in the art gallery a few hours each month as part of the all-volunteer staff. The nonprofit CNY Arts Center is run entirely by volunteers.
Not limited to Fulton, Artists from the CNY region are encouraged to apply and will find more information at www.CNYArtsCenter.com or by calling 592-3373.
Gallery opening is scheduled for early May.
