Blue Moon owners receive Jan Rebeor Award

by Nicole Reitz

Bill and Karen Hubel, owners of the Blue Moon Grill in Fulton, were recently awarded the Jan Rebeor Award from the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce.

The Jan Rebeor Award is in its sixth year and is awarded by the chamber to an individual for outstanding commitment and service. Past recipients have all given their time to assist with local events or projects.

The Hubels are an entrepreneurial couple who opened their business in December 2005 after 16 years of working with another local establishment. They recently opened a new restaurant, Under The Moon, located beneath the Blue Moon Grill, in Fulton’s Canal Landing. The private function venue was an investment made to meet the growing demand of their customers.

Under The Moon has its own bathrooms and kitchen and hosts everything from wedding rehearsal dinners and retirements to Christmas parties and funeral luncheons.

“People get very pleasantly surprised when they walk down here,” said Karen. “The room sells itself.”

Despite working on average six days a week and raising their teenage son, Hunter, this year’s winners are active in the community through a number of chamber events, including Tunes in June and the Fulton Jazz Festival.

They are regular contributors to a wide variety of community events benefitting Catholic Charities, Fulton Athletic Boosters, Fulton Lions Club, Oswego County Opportunities, Hospice Cup Regatta, the American Red Cross and the United Way, among others.

The award came as a surprise to the couple, who didn’t find out about the honor until Rebeor read their biography during the chamber’s recent annual meeting.

“We are truly honored and humbled that the selection committee thought of us, “ said Bill Hubel.
