William Burtis, Fulton resident

OBITS-BurtisWilliam_WWilliam R. “Bill” Burtis, 72, of Fulton died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at home.

Born in Fulton, he was a life resident of the area. In 1986, he had founded Sanford and Burtis Fire Equipment and retired in 2007. He was a member and past president of Fulton Lion’s Club, member of Syracuse Executives Association, and was a member and past Governor of Loyal Order of  Moose Lodge #1280, Fulton.

An avid outdoorsman, he thrived on hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, camping, and more. Auctions were a favorite pastime as well as emulating John Wayne and Johnny Cash. He had a deep appreciation for NASCAR, books, history, travel (especially Vegas).

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Julie A. Sheldon; children, Karen (Randy) Stoughtenger, Elizabeth (William) Clark and Steven Luke (Kimberley); and grandchildren, Nathan, Mallory, Lucas and Sophie.

Calling hours and service were held Sunday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton.
