The Hannibal girls varsity basketball team split games against Red Creek and Solvay recently.
Hannibal shut out Red Creek during the first quarter of its game en route to a dominating win Jan. 19.
Unfortunately for the Lady Warriors, the second proved to be unkind to them when they took on Solvay Jan. 23. Solvay outscored Hannibal 30-18 during the third and fourth quarters to come away with the win.
The Lady Warriors quickly set the tone for an impressive performance against Red Creek. They jumped out to a 12-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and didn’t look back. Hannibal outscored Red Creek by five points during the second quarter to take a 17 point lead into halftime at 19-2.
The Lady Warriors didn’t let up during the third quarter either. They outscored Red Creek by eight points to extend their lead to 25 points. Hannibal put the finishing touches on a solid performance during the fourth quarter. Hannibal outscored Red Creek by four points to cap off a 43-14 win.
Leading the way for the Lady Warriors was Devin Sorell, who scored 16 points. Following Sorell was Gabby Griffin with eight points.
Trinity Strupp, Kaylee Esposito and Sara Williams added four points each while E.J. Setsaas, Alexis Stephens and Kaitlin Taylor combined to score seven points.
