The Hannibal boys varsity basketball team went 1-1 in games against Skaneateles and Chittenango last week.
Jan. 8, Skaneateles gradually cushioned its lead as the game went on to come away with a hard fought win.
However, the Warriors responded with an exciting win against Chittenango Jan. 11. Hannibal staged a furious fourth quarter rally to overcome a double digit lead to escape with a one-point win over Chittenango.
The Warriors got off to a decent start when they took on Skaneateles. By the end of the first quarter, Hannibal had built a three-point lead over Skaneateles.
Skaneateles, however, began to take over from there. The Lakers outscored the Warriors by four points during the second quarter to take a one-point lead into halftime at 24-23.
Hannibal shoved great resolve as the game went on. The Warriors were outscored by a point during the third quarter and faced a two-point deficit going into the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, Skaneateles proved to be too much down the stretch. The Lakers outscored Hannibal by four points during the fourth quarter to come away with a 58-52 win.
The Warriors were led by Jake Shortslef, who scored 20 points. Following Shortslef was Billy Skipper with 16 points. Ryan Perry and Trevor Alton scored five points each while Jacob Schenko, Charlie McCraith and Sam McCraith combined to score six points for Hannibal.
