County ethics policy yet to be updated

A draft code of ethics policy was handed out to members of the Oswego County Legislature’s Strategic Planning and Government Committee at the June 25 meeting. To date, no new policy has been introduced.

The issue resurfaced at the July 23 committee meeting, with legislators agreeing to have a sub-committee review the draft plan. During the Aug. 27 meeting, Legislator Margaret Kastler asked if the sub-committee had been established to review the draft policy. The answer was no.

That was the last discussion on the plan that guides county employees in regard to ethics conduct.

Legislator Jim Karasek, who also served on the committee last year, said he had no idea why it has not been brought back up for discussion.

Some legislators have been pushing to have more members added to the ethics board. Currently there are three members with no alternate. It has been suggested that the board members be increased to five.
