CNY Arts Center celebrates the New Year with a full calendar of exciting events and classes.
All arts for all ages means students can choose from writing arts, performing arts, studio arts, and culinary arts.
Classes start right away this Saturday, Jan. 5 with Kids Onstage meeting Saturdays from noon to 2 p.m. for ages 7-15. This class will hold auditions for a kids-only production of “Tom Sawyer.”
Each class will teach stage technique, creative movement and character development through rehearsals for the production. “Tom Sawyer” will be presented to family and friends in early April.
Kids Onscreen also returns Jan. 5 for ages 6 and older from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Children will create a script for a 10-15 minute short film and then shoot the film together. Students will learn and enjoy basic scriptwriting process, acting, and the experience of filming a movie to produce a finished DVD to take home.
Studio Art classes will launch with Going with the Flow Wednesday, Jan. 9 and Friday, Jan. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. with Loie Mechetti. This beginning watercolor class requires no drawing skills. Art kits are available from the instructor.
Different Ways to Draw will be held Saturday, Jan. 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kendra Matott will teach a variety of different drawing methods, including some unconventional ones.
Techniques will include still life drawings, energy drawings, paint splatters, and drawing with your feet. They will help widen a student’s drawing skills and provide them with tools to break through creative blocks. For ages 8 to Adult
Writing classes continue with Intro To Poetry Thursdays from Jan. 10 to Feb. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. This class introduces students to the world of poetry in a fun, relaxed fashion. Time in each class will be spent exploring different types of poetry and writing our own poetry. Work will be shared in a relaxed, welcoming environment. No previous writing experience necessary. This is for those ages 18 and older. The instructor is Jim Farfaglia.
My New Year’s Resolution: Write will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a half-hour for lunch. Start your New Year off with a commitment to your writing projects. Use this full-day workshop to learn the value of timed writing, ways to develop good habits, and share with a listening audience. Story starters will be provided which focus on true life. The last part of the workshop will be dedicated to developing individual projects and goal setting. Please bring a bagged lunch. Instructor is Brittney Jerred.
The second annual Snow Day with new carnival games, arts and crafts, and food will be held Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
