The Fulton boys basketball team is working hard this pre-season.
Coach Matt Kimpland said he is pleased with the efforts of several players who are returning from last year’s team. A year ago, the development of these players was assisted by the opportunity to be on the court for valuable minutes throughout the season.
The Red Raiders have two goals for the upcoming season. First, they are working hard for improvement on a consistent basis with the goal of being a competitive team in their league. The second goal is to earn a sectional bid.
When practices began in early November, many of Kimpland’s players were in decent physical condition following their participation in fall sports. However, he pointed out that being ready to play football or soccer is different than being ready to play basketball.
Kimpland expects the Red Raiders’ schedule to be challenging. For starters, they will take on the defending Class A State Champions from Jamesville-Dewitt and the defending Class B State Champions from Bishop Ludden.
Fulton will also take on perennial league powerhouses Christian Brothers Academy and Cortland along with other impressive league opponents.
However, unlike last season, Fulton will not face any Class AA opponents, which is something that Kimpland feels could work to his team’s advantage.
