The Hannibal boys varsity cross country team finished in third place in the Class C State Championship Meet, which was held Saturday at Elma Meadows Golf Course outside of Buffalo.
The event was 5000 meters in proximity while featuring 130 runners from more than 11 schools.
Hannibal tallied a team score of 117. The Warriors were led by Ben Slate, who finished in 47th place with a time of 17:23.4.
Following Slate were Kyle Cooper, who came in 55th place with a time of 17:35.6, and Jason McFarland, who finished in 56th place with a time of 17:36.6.
Erick Febus came in 67th place with a time of 17:46.6 while Frank Lackey finished in 85th place with a time of 18:18.8. Zane Pointon came in 88th place with a time of 18:28.1.
According to Coach Dan Pawlewicz, his team fought hard only to come up short. In light of their enduring dedication and effort, the Warriors now have a Sectional Banner to hang at Hannibal High School.
With the cross country team’s biggest goal accomplished, Pawlewicz said Hannibal’s participation in the Class C State Championship Meet was a great experience for his team.
