The Phoenix girls varsity soccer team recently played its final game of the 2012 season.

As the team begins to prepare for next season, it bids farewell to four seniors. Meghan Barry, Jessica Moore, Sydney Patzke and Kylie Wallace were honored for the time and dedication they brought to Phoenix Girls Soccer.

According to Coach Bill Conklin, the growth his young team experienced in 2012 is thanks in large part to the contributions of these four seniors.

Wallace earned First Team All OHSL Liberty League Honors while also being named to the All Section 3 Team. Barry earned Second Team All OHSL Liberty League Honors while Sydney Patzke earned All League Honorable Mention.

Conklin said his four seniors proved to be solid role models for their teammates. They worked hard in practice and during games while always encouraging their younger teammates to perform at the same level.

He suggested that it was the encouragement of these seniors that helped the rest of the team to improve as the season went on.

In 2011, Phoenix scored only two goals all season and finished with a record of 0-16. In 2012, the Lady Firebirds scored 16 goals and went 0-15-1. Though it wasn’t an immense improvement in terms of wins and losses, Conklin said the development his team displayed throughout the season will benefit them down the road.
