The Fulton girls varsity soccer team lost a heartbreaker to top-seeded Whitesboro in a Section III Class A semifinal game in Chittenango Tuesday.
Whitesboro scored two unanswered goals during the second half to escape with a 2-1 win over The Lady Raiders.
After playing numerous games where its solid defensive play helped it secure wins in tight games, Fulton was in a familiar position after the first half of play.
The Lady Raiders had a 1-0 lead over going into halftime. However, Whitesboro proved to be different from the other teams that the Lady Raiders were able to pull out slim victories against.
Jennifer Deuel and Mariah Williams scored second-half goals to put Whitesboro ahead. The Lady Raiders were unable to respond as Whitesboro escaped with the one goal win.
The Lady Raiders were led by Christina Pensabene, who scored Fulton’s lone goal. Pensabene’s goal was assisted by Courtney Beckwith. Goalie Allyson Bricker saved 14 shots on goal. Top seeded Whitesboro went on to play Jamesville-DeWitt on Nov. 1 in Chittenango. With the loss, Fulton’s season concludes with a final record of 11-5-2.
