Wayne A. “Lucky” Howard was born June 17, 1925 in Fulton and died Oct. 14, 2012 at the age of 87 in San Diego, Calif.
He was born to Belva and Charles Howard and was the eighth of nine children. He grew up in Fulton and joined the Army September 1, 1943. He was stationed in Italy and southern France. While in Normandy, he was shot and spent one year paralyzed and in a body cast. He was honorably discharged on May 31, 1945 after receiving two stars and the Purple Heart.
He had a passion for flying model airplanes and was a very active member in the Oswego Valley Modelaires for many years, where he was awarded an honorary life time membership. He spent his last five years with his son and family in San Diego.
He was pre-deceased by his wife, Joy, and by his son, Richard.
He is survived by three children, Bruce, Sandy and Leslie and their spouses; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.
Mr. Howard’s and his wife’s ashes will be placed at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.
