Hannibal football defeats Grimes

by Rob Tetro

The new playoff format of Section III Class C allows more teams to participate in postseason play. For this to happen, however, the regular season is cut short a week.

With each team playing only six regular season games, teams who didn’t qualify for postseason play, like Hannibal, can benefit from two cross divisional games.

Coming off of last week’s win over Thousand Islands, Hannibal cruised past Bishop Grimes this past Saturday. The Warriors scored 42 points in the first half en route to a 55-34 win.

Bishop Grimes jumped out to a early lead when Qaurterback Casey Evans threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Bill Blasland. Hannibal responded by scoring 21 unanswered points.

The Warriors tied the game when Greg Hadcock caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trevor Alton. Later in the first quarter, Alton struck again. He tossed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Billy Lewis, which gave the Warriors a 14-7 lead.

Before the first quarter ended, Alton was a part of his third scoring play of the game. This time, Alton created points for Hannibal by scoring on a run from 12 yards out. Alton’s rushing touchdown gave the Warriors a 21-7 lead.

Early in the second quarter, Bishop Grimes cut into Hannibal’s lead. Evans tossed a 55-yard touchdown pass to Bill Blasland.

Like the first quarter, the Warriors again responded with 21 unanswered points. Hannibal took a 28-14 lead when Alton threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Lewis. Later in the second quarter, Lewis was the recipient of another touchdown pass from Alton. This time, Lewis caught a 35-yard touchdown pass to give the Warriors a 35-14 lead.

Hannibal struck again before the first half ended. Alton tossed a 33-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Schenko for a 42-14 lead.
