The Hannibal Fire Company is going pink.
In honor of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the department and the ladies auxiliary will be wearing pink T-shirts at several functions throughout the month, according to Lieutenant Carl Emmons Jr.
The ladies auxiliary, which is one of the most active auxiliaries in the county, purchased the T-shirts for the firefighters and auxiliary members.
Similar pink T-shirts will be available to purchase with the proceeds going to benefit breast cancer research.
“We want to raises awareness,” Emmons said. “Not a lot of people know that breast cancer also affects men. We have two guys who said they won’t wear the pink shirts — but they are.”
The department also purchased pink fire hoods from Jerome Fire Equipment Co. Some of the costs went to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
