Sixth-place finishes for Hannibal cross country

Three Hannibal cross country teams took part in the 48th annual McQuaid Invitational last Saturday.

The McQuaid Invitational is amongst the largest scholastic meets in the country. Schools from as many as 18 states and two Canadian provinces seek the opportunity to take part in the event.

This year, there were 26 races, 246 teams and over 7,500 participants. Both the Hannibal varsity boys and girls teams came home with sixth-place finishes. Ninth grader Jason McFarland helped Hannibal’s junior varsity team come away with a sixth-place finish as well.

Hannibal’s boys varsity team earned a sixth-place finish in a field that featured 27 other teams. There was only 19 points that separated the Warriors from a possible third place finish.

This particular field featured six of the top nine teams in New York State while teams from Pennsylvania earned third- and fourth-place finishes.

Senior Ryan Perry was Hannibal’s top runner with a time of 15:51, which earned him a 15th place finish.

Hannibal’s girls varsity team came away with a sixth-place finish in a field that featured 23 other teams. Seventh grader McKenzie Mattison earned a sixth-place finish overall with a time of 19:26 while competing against 216 other runners.
