Oswego County’s unemployment rate remains above 10 percent

While the New York State unemployment rate is improving, Oswego County’s unemployed remains above 10 percent.

The latest figures provided by the New York State Labor Department show Oswego County’s unemployment rate at 10.2 percent for August, down from 10.5 percent from July.

The August 2011 unemployment rate was at 9.1 percent.

Oswego County narrowly escaped the list of the five counties with the highest unemployment rate for August. Bronx County is first on the list at 13.1 percent, followed by Orleans County at 11.3 percent, St. Lawrence County at 10.8 percent, Fulton County at 10.6 percent and Kings County at 10.5 percent.

The state Labor Department’s Sept. 25 report notes that the overall state rate is 9.1 percent.
