Andrew Litteer, a member of Boy Scout Troop 203, is working towards his Eagle Scout Badge.

For his Eagle project, he designed and installed a set of bridges at Great Bear Recreational Area. The bridges connect the historical Oswego River Canal Tow Path across a muddy section to an Island area having a trail around it’s perimeter.

Litteer organized a work party of members of Troop 203, friends, and members of Friends of Great Bear. Two 12-foot bridges and a 30-foot bridge were constructed on site.

Because of the mile distance to the site, lumber and materials were transported by canoes through the old canal and the work crew helped carry tools to site by tow path.

The new bridge section helps protect the surrounding flora and allows for four season use of the tow path and trail system on the island.
