The Fulton girls varsity tennis team earned its first win of the season when it defeated East Syracuse-Minoa Tuesday.
Fulton won three out of the four doubles matches to clinch the victory.
In singles play, East Syracuse-Minoa’s Samantha LoBello defeated Fulton’s Katelyn Billings, 6-0, 6-1. The Lady Raiders answered when Savannah Bray defeated East Syracuse-Minoa’s Jenna Wright-Rihinen, 6-1, 6-3.
East Syracuse-Minoa went on to win the rubber singles match when Wan Ying Zhang defeated Fulton’s Jasmine Denson, 6-3,7-6.
Though East Syracuse-Minoa took two out of three singles matches, the Lady Raiders were poised to rally during doubles play.
Fulton’s Anna Guernsey and Kassidy Kearns defeated East Syracuse-Minoa’s Jeanine Koehler and Caitlin Underwood, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. East Syracuse-Minoa got its only win in doubles play when Adisa Husijnovic and Jackie Moshier defeated Fulton’s Julia Ludington and Casey Shannon, 6-3, 7-6.
Fulton struck back when Sophia Giovannetti and Maureen McCann defeated East Syracuse-Minoa’s Kim Donato and Ashley Downey, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0.
The Lady Raiders clinched the win when Audrey Proto and Krista Vann defeated East Syracuse-Minoa’s Linh Lam and Y Lam, 6-2, 6-3.
With the win, Fulton improves to 1-10 for the season but remains winless in league play. As of today, the Lady Raiders have only one more event left in regular season play.
In Fulton’s season finale, the girls will travel to Christian Brothers Academy for a contest on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Fulton boys soccer
The Fulton boys varsity soccer team came up short against East Syracuse-Minoa last Thursday. East Syracuse-Minoa scored three goals during the first half which proved to be an insurmountable lead.
East Syracuse-Minoa came away with a 3-1 win.
The Red Raiders were led by Carson Vono, who scored Fulton’s lone goal. An assist was credited to Austin Wilde. Fulton Keeper Robert Borrow saved six shots on goal.
The Red Raiders got back on track when they took on Mexico Tuesday. Fulton jumped out to a 3-0 lead to set the tone for its 6-0 shutout win.
The win marked the Red Raiders second win of the season.
