The Phoenix varsity football team took on Weedsport Friday afternoon in its first home game of the season.

It was also the Firebirds’ first home game since the death of Ridge Barden last season. There was a moment of silence before the game followed by the releasing of orange and black balloons.

During the game, Phoenix was never really able to get it together to present a challenge to Weedsport.

Weedsport scored 14 points in the third quarter to blow the game open. While appearing to be emotionally spent, the Firebirds were unable to battle back as Weedsport cruised to a 34-0 win.
