Fulton boys soccer reloads

by Rob Tetro

Former Assistant Coach Nate Murray has been promoted to head coach of the Fulton boys varsity soccer team.

Coming off of an exciting 2011 season, which featured a trip to the Class A Section 3 championship game, Murray and the Red Raiders hope to be in the same position come season’s end.

However, Murray’s team has a primary goal for the season. He said that being in a position to play in the postseason won’t be possible unless his team accomplishes its goal of coming together as a unit.

Fulton lost eight players from last year’s team to graduation. Six of them were starters last season. With only four seniors returning from last year’s team, Murray expects to have an inexperienced team on his hands.

The Red Raiders have named four team captains for the 2012 season: Brandon Lockwood, who is going into his second season as a captain; Steven Hancyzk; Paul Reynoso; and Carson Vono.

Murray said his captains are  players who encourage and motivate their teammates while allowing their determination to be seen with their actions on the field.
