The Phoenix softball team did the bulk of its scoring early on in its Friday’s contest against Chittenango.
The Lady Firebirds’ impressive start set the tone for a 11-4 win over Chittenango, which allowed the Lady Firebirds to clinch a spot in the sectional semifinal Game that was held yesterday.
Following a barrage of hits and subsequent runs, Phoenix built a 10-0 lead by the end of the third inning.
After a couple of scoreless innings, each team scored a run a piece during the sixth inning. With one more chance to rally, Chittenango scored three runs during the top of the 7th inning, which made the score 11-4. Unfortunately for Chittenango, the Lady Firebirds’ lead proved too much to overcome as Phoenix prevailed with the 7 run win.
Phoenix was led by Meghan Barry, who had three 3 hits and an RBI against Chittenango. Jenna Zaia added two hits and three RBIs while Trisha Hetko chipped in with two hits and an RBI.
