Several local residents honored at SUNY Oswego convocation

Nearly 110 students at SUNY Oswego, including local residents, received awards at the college’s spring Honors Convocation.

Lana K. Slinkard of State Route 176 in Cato, a senior studying studio art, received the Herman Krusi Award. Her future plan is to attend graduate school for fine arts.

Jane M. DeForge of County Route 4 in Central Square, a junior studying childhood education, received the Lucy Wing Scholarship. She is the daughter of Bruce and Glenda DeForge of Parish. She is employed at Tutor Time. Her future plan is to attend graduate school for special education.

Jacob M. Peck of Gansvoort Street in Fulton, a senior studying computer science, received the Oebele Van Dyk Outstanding Computer Science Senior Award. He is the son of Jean Wilcox of Fulton. He is a member of the Honors Program.

Gloria M. Stevens of North Sixth Street in Fulton, a junior studying business administration, received the Eta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda Scholarship. She is employed by the Oswego County Department of Social Services as a principal social welfare examiner.

Richard W. DiSalvo of Besaw Road in Phoenix, a senior studying economics and mathematics, received the Outstanding Senior in Economics Award and the Louis R. DeRitter Award. He is the son of Richard and Melody DiSalvo of Phoenix. He is a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon. His future plans are to attend graduate school for economics.

The formal ceremony, complete with a procession of faculty and college officers in full academic regalia, is sponsored each spring at Oswego by Vega, the women’s honor society. The audience included faculty, staff, students and students’ family members.
