Valley Viewpoints: Seeking support

by Rosemary A. Occhino of Fulton

To all Fulton voters, please know that the school budget and elections will take place Tuesday, May 15 at all of our elementary schools from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. This is everyone’s opportunity to exercise their right to vote.

This year there are two open seats on the board of education with three contenders. Being an incumbent, I am asking for your support on election day.

It is my mission to continue in creating a positive difference in the lives of our school children, community, and fellow educators.

In 2009, I decided to submit my name for the open seat on the school board. My thanks to each of 740 voters who placed their trust in me, to listen and serve as your voice for the next three years. It has been my privilege to give back to our community with my time, energy, and knowledge to create a network of individuals and experiences to benefit the school district.

My life’s devotion is to encourage and instruct individuals with the learning process, even after retiring ten years ago from the school district. Sharing an abundant of time in the buildings has given me insight and pleasure beyond belief.

While serving on the board for the past three years, I have been apart of the Communication, Policy, Safey, Audit, and the GRB Site-Base Committees.

In addition, I have attended many meetings, visitations, and conferences for School Law, NYS Small City School Districts and NY School Board Association.  Each event has contributed to making me a better board member and serving the school district.

Recently, the Fulton district participated in a Pop-tab Campaign to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Syracuse. In spear-heading the process, a Fulton business willingly donated jugs for collection containers.
