The Phoenix varsity softball team hosted a softball tournament last weekend. The tournament featured Auburn, Syracuse East, and Mexico.
Phoenix finished with a record of 1-1 in the tournament. The Lady Firebirds came up short against Auburn 3-2, but they were able to come away with a 6-3 win against Mexico.
Auburn’s Ali Van Giesen pitched a solid game against Phoenix. Van Giesen struck out six batters while giving up only two runs on three hits.
It was a scoreless game until the bottom of the third inning when Phoenix took a 2-0 lead. During the next two innings, Auburn responded with three runs of its own to take a one-run lead.
The Lady Firebirds were unable to answer Auburn’s response, which allowed Auburn to hang on for the one-run win.
