Vintage quilts to be featured during Scriba Bicentennial Celebration

The Scriba Bicentennial Celebration June 16 and 17 will feature an exhibition of vintage quilts associated with the Town of Scriba.

Among the early entries are an autograph quilt made in 1895 by the women associated with the men who fought in the Civil War – the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), and a quilt owned by the Coon family.

The committee is looking for more quilts or quilt related items to include in the display.

If there enough items to display, the show will be at the Scriba Child Care Center on Route 104 and will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 16 and from 1 to 5 p.m. June 17.

People who wish to loan quilts may call Kerry Barnes at 342-0866.

With the cooperation of the Scriba Quilters Club, a 21st Century autograph quilt will be constructed as a fund-raiser for the celebration with people buying a block that they can sign.

Blocks will be available at the Scriba Municipal Building starting May 7.
