A 20-year-old Fulton resident was charged with assault and endangering charges following a report of suspected child abuse, Fulton police said.

Carl James Kaufmann III, of Erie Street, Fulton, was arrested Tuesday. At about 11:45 a.m., police responded to the Oswego Health Urgent Care in Fulton for a report of an injury to a child.

It was discovered that a four-month old infant had sustained a serious leg injury while in the care of Kaufmann earlier in the day. He is accused of intentionally causing serious physical injury by squeezing the infant’s leg, causing the femur to fracture.

Kaufmann was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child.
