The Phoenix Varsity Softball Team wasted little time looking the part of division leader when it took on Fulton Wednesday.
Going into the fifth inning, Phoenix led 5-0 and was seeking the knockout punch. Eight runs later, the Lady Firebirds were en route to a 14-2 win.
The Lady Firebirds got off to a solid start against Fulton. They led 3-0 by the end of the second inning. Two more runs during the bottom of the third inning brought the Lady Firebirds’ lead to 5-0.
The door was still open for a Fulton rally going into the bottom of the fifth inning. However, Phoenix quickly closed the door.
Phoenix erupted for eight runs to bring its lead to 13-0. Fulton scored two runs during the top of the fifth and sixth innings, but the Lady Raiders were unable to get any closer. Phoenix added a late run to cap off the 12-run win.
Leading the way for Phoenix was Brittney Sears, who had four hits and four RBIs, including a home run.
Breezy Riggall also had four hits and finished with an RBI. Jesse Johnson chipped in two hits and three RBIs. Sam Frega added two hits and an RBI.
