Jean LaFave, teacher’s aide

Jean S. LaFave, 76, of Liverpool, died at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany Saturday, April 28, 2012.

Born in Gouverneur, she was raised in Oswegatchie by her late parents, Ailsa Erline (Harrington) and Hollis Llewelyn Scruton. She attended school in Clifton Fine and was a graduate of SUNY Canton.

She was a teacher’s aide at Emerson J. Dillon Junior High School, Phoenix, as well as a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Congregational, United Church of Christ, Phoenix, and its Dorcas Circle organization.

She served as Matron and Secretary for the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 172, Phoenix, Junior Deputy of Triangle Girls, DDGM in 1983, Grand Chaplain in 1999; as well as a volunteer at the Eastern Star Home; a member of the Phoenix Topics Club.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Earl B. LaFave; four sons and their spouses, Keith and Sylvia LaFave of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Kevin and Michelle LaFave of Baldwinsville, David LaFave of Colorado, and Daniel LaFave of Mexico; one daughter and her spouse, Darleen and Michael Ballou of Palermo; one sister, Joanne LeRoux; two brothers, Ivan Scruton and Bill Scruton; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, and nephews.

Services will be held today, May 2 at 11 a m. in the First Congregational, UCC, 43 Bridge St., Phoenix. Burial will be in Phoenix Rural Cemetery, 126 Chestnut St.

Calling hours were held Tuesday at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix.
