Volney Elementary School honors local soldier

American hero – Volney Elementary School held a patriotic assembly Monday, honoring local solider Eric Lockwood. Students from Volney sent Lockwood cards, pictures and care packages while he served overseas in Afghanistan. Students Julia Guarrera and Mary Jerred read samples of the letters sent to Lockwood and presented him with a Volney Vikings sweatshirt. Lockwood, who attended Volney school, visited classrooms after the assembly, meeting and answering students questions.
