Phoenix varsity girls softball Coach Casey Jones has mentioned several times that if his team does not play to its capabilities, it still has an incomparable will to win.
Jones’ statement was never more true than it was when his team took Chittenango Friday. Despite six costly errors, the Lady Firebirds came from behind for a dramatic 13-12 win.
Chittenango got things going quickly, taking a 1-0 lead during the top of the first inning. However, the game became far more interesting during the second inning. Chittenango added five more runs to bring its lead to 6-0.
Phoenix fired back with four runs of its own during the bottom of the second inning to bring Chittenango’s lead down to two runs at 6-4.
The Lady Firebirds kept it going during the bottom of the third inning, scoring four more runs to take a 8-6 lead.
