Friday the 13th was far from a day of bad luck for the Fulton varsity softball team.
The Lady Raiders cruised to victory against Cortland for the team’s first win of the season. Friday’s win also marked Coach Derek Lyon’s first win as a varsity softball coach.
The Lady Raiders scored six runs during the bottom of the fifth inning, which propelled them to a 13-1 win.
Even though The Lady Raiders had 17 hits against Cortland, they weren’t able to get onto the scoreboard until the bottom of the third inning when they scored two runs.
During the bottom of the fourth inning, Fulton added another run to make the score 3-0. A six-run outburst during the bottom of the fifth inning not only put the Lady Raiders ahead 9-0 but perhaps closed the door on any hope of a Cortland rally.
