You can’t blame Phoenix varsity softball coach Casey Jones’ excitement for the upcoming season.
The majority of a team that won a sectional championship a year ago returns this year.
“They are in super shape and look good,” Jones said.
Jones suggested that if his team can realize its potential the Firebirds could see another successful season for the Lady Firebirds.
Phoenix will feature seven returning starters from a 2011 team that went deep into the state playoffs.
Jones said his players maintained a solid work ethic during the off season and appear to be in great shape. The Lady Firebirds will face improving teams from their own league. They will also be challenged greatly in non league games, which consist of mostly Class AA schools.
With the return of 2011 Pitcher of the Year, Brittney Sears, Phoenix expects be quite strong on the mound this season.
