New Fulton softball coach has postseason aspirations

by Rob Tetro

If you ask new Fulton varsity softball coach Derek Lyons what some of his goals are for his debut season, his response is straight to the point.

Making daily improvements is the most important goal that his team can accomplish in 2012.

However, Lyons doesn’t stray far from a bigger aspiration. He said that every team should set out to earn a sectional playoff bid.  “We have made it clear that one of our other goals is to make sectionals,” he said.

In 2012, Fulton will feature a senior-laden team that has been around the program for many years.

Lyons mentioned that his players have to believe that they can be successful, especially his seniors.

“We do have a lot of seniors on this team but we need those seniors to step up and be good leaders,” he said.

With a strong work ethic expected of them every day, the Lady Raiders will adapt to drills that will be aimed to enhance competition.

These drills can continue the development of his team’s fitness and conditioning.
