The Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Youth Group will be holding a silent auction Sunday, March 18 from noon until 1 p.m.
The group is raising funds to attend a Reach Work Camp this July in Broadalbin, N.Y.
Reach Work Camps are a Christian-based week long camp where campers will be undertaking major construction and renovation projects on homes of well deserving seniors and families.
The campers volunteer their time, sleep on floors of a nearby high school, eat school food and pay almost $400 each for the opportunity to help out a neighbor.
The cost of the camp is mainly to support the cost of construction materials, including lumber for wheel chair ramps, paint, sheet rock, roofing, and tools.
A member of the group, Audrey Proto, a junior at G. Ray Bodley said, “Reach is a great opportunity for our group to grow closer together and deeper in our faith. We also meet a lot of new friends each year and are able to experience the joy that comes from serving others. It’s a lot of hard work but it’s worth every minute.”
The Mt. Pleasant group will be sending 13 teens and four chaperones, including Pastor David Grey and Pastor Mike Houck, to join nearly 500 other youth and their leaders from around the Northeast.
The silent auction will feature handmade items, donated services, local business gift cards and more.
