Fulton, Phoenix wrestlers honored during banquet

Fulton's Nick Woodworth received the Division One Exceptional Senior Award for this past season. Woodworth finished his final year with a record of 34-4.

Last weekend, the Friends of Section 3 Wrestling held its fourth annual banquet honoring the best wrestlers in Central New York for the 2011-2012 year.

Fulton Senior Nick Woodworth (160 pounds) was selected as the recipient for the Division One Exceptional Senior Award for this past season.

Woodworth finished his final year with a record of 34-4.

Overall, he was 107-37 for his high school career with 63 pins. He was also a two-time Section 3 champion.

Senior Tyler Button (145 pounds), senior Austyn Hayes (195 pounds) and junior Nick Tighe (126 pounds) of the Phoenix Firebirds were also honored at the Friends of Section 3 Wrestling Banquet for their outstanding accomplishments this past season.

Button and Tighe won state titles at the Division Two level in their weight classes. Hayes came in third place and at the banquet was given the honor of being the recipient of the Division Two Exceptional Senior Award.

Hayes was 34-1 this past season, is a three-time section 3 champion and ended his career with over 200 wins. Button  was 35-1 this season. Overall, he is 186-29, with 117 pins. Tighe now has two state titles to his credit along with 204 career wins and still has another year to go.

He was undefeated this past year and was the recipient of the Division 2 Wrestler of the Year.
