Pop-tabs challenge

For the remainder of the 2011-2012 year, the Fulton City School District will participate in the Ronald McDonald House Charities of CNY’s Pick Up the Tab Campaign.

This campaign collects aluminum  pop-tabs year-round. Pop-tabs  are found on soda and soup cans, some animal food containers, and other food and beverage items.

There is a serious need for a second Ronald McDonald House to be built in Syracuse. Over 200 organizations, including many school districts, are on the bandwagon collecting pop-tabs to help keep families in need together.

Pop-tabs are an easy way to recycle and help others. Anyone can do it!! Did you know that one pound of aluminum is sold for $0.60? It takes 1,267 pop-tabs to make a pound.

The pop-tabs can make a big impact in collected in big numbers. We would like to be apart of that impact, and making a difference to others by collecting as many pop-tabs as possible.

Among the seven school locations, there is a competition to see which building will collect the most tabs. The winning school will receive a “sensational surprise” from Ronald McDonald.

Please join everyone in supporting our pop-tab campaign.  Each school has a five gallon water jug donated by Hudson’s Dairy.

To date, our elementary schools have collected over 200 pounds  or 262,269 tabs!
In May, one school will be named the winner!! So c’mon, pop a tab and keep hurting families together!
